POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 22,2025 : A book title- “Small Loans, Big Dreams”, written by Grameen Foundation founder Alex Counts, highlighting the outstanding contributions of Chief Adviser Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is now available in the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
In addition to the title, the author also inscribed on the front cover, “How Nobel Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus and Microfinance Are Changing the World,” emphasizing Professor Yunus’s significant role in combating poverty.
In this book, Alex presented a classic account of the innovation and growth of microfinance in Bangladesh, led by Professor Yunus and Grameen Bank. It illustrated how a marginalized woman transformed her life by launching a small business with the help of microfinance.
Alex wrote the book in 2008, but this is the first time the Asian edition of it has been released. It is also being showcased at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair for the first time. Published by UPL, the book is available for purchase at their stall.
UPL Director Mahrukh Mohiuddin told BSS that the Asian edition “Small Loans, Big Dreams” has been brought to the book fair for the first time.
Moreover, three books written by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, one book edited by him and another book of Alex Counts title- “Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank and the Global Micro-Finance Revolution” are available at the UPL stall. However, UPL had brought those books to the book fair few years ago.
In the Asian edition of “Small Loans, Big Dreams,” Alex Counts explored the history of microfinance and described how Grameen Bank has adapted its operations to tackle the challenges such as economic recessions and environmental crises.
He addressed critics’ concerns about the Grameen model and highlighted the lasting impact of Yunus’ remarkable vision.
In the book, the author also showed how microfinance could play a significant role in reducing economic inequality by enabling the underprivileged to participate creatively in the global economy.
With the help of Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Alex Counts founded the Grameen Foundation in 1997 and served as its president and CEO.
In addition, he also served as President and CEO of the American India Foundation in 2016-17.
While studying at Cornell University, he received the John F. Kennedy Memorial Award.
Some other books written on Professor Yunus, Grameen Bank and microfinance are also available at the UPL stall like previous years.
