POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 5, 2021 :If the price of fuel oil is not reduced, the transport of goods including trucks will be closed from 8 am on Friday (November 5). The program was called by the Road Transport Owners Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, Bangladesh Truck-Bus Owners Association and Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners Association.
Four leaders of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, the largest bus owners’ organization, told the media on Thursday (November 4th) afternoon. Earlier, rumors had been circulating since noon on Thursday that they had not received any proposal from the government to call off the strike.
Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, told reporters that the owners had decided not to drive because of rising oil prices. However, no official strike was declared. The organization has written to the BRTA demanding an increase in rent.
Haji Mohammad, president of the Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association, said the transport of goods across the country would be closed from 6 am on Friday. Tofazzal Hossain Majumder. He said the decision was taken at a meeting of the association in the afternoon. He said the transportation of goods in trucks and covered vans across the country will be closed from 6 am. This is for an indefinite period. Until a solution is found or the government accepts our demands.
After a meeting at the Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association office in Gabtali, its general secretary Rakesh Ghosh said the strike would continue if the government did not comply with demands to reduce oil prices or increase transport fares. However, if any bus-truck owner wants to drive with financial loss, they can do so.
The government has increased the price of diesel by Tk 15 per liter from midnight on Wednesday. Leaders of various organizations in the transport sector have met among themselves today. From these meetings it was decided to stop the transport till the announcement of not increasing the fare.
