POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 16, 2021 : Bangladesh Former Prime Minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s standing committee, is no more. He died at 6:30 pm Bangladesh time on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He was 72 years old.
Barrister Abdullah Al Mahmoud, a junior lawyer in Barrister Moudud Ahmed’s chambers, confirmed the death on Tuesday evening.
Professor Dr. Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. Moudud Ahmed was undergoing treatment under Charles T. He is accompanied by his wife Hasna Moudud.
On May 5, Moudud was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in the capital with a heart attack including chest pain and respiratory problems. He has been receiving treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore since February 1. Earlier, the BNP leader was admitted to various hospitals in the capital with serious illness.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed was born on 24 May 1940 in Kompaniganj upazila of Noakhali district in the Bengal Presidency of British India (now Bangladesh).
Moudud Ahmed is a colorful politician of the country. He was law minister, prime minister and vice president. Barrister Moudud Ahmed was the Vice President and Prime Minister of Ershad government. But before that he was one of the founding members of BNP. He has played an important role in the government during the rule of Ziaur Rahman. His association with Ershad in the eighties was a great political surprise.
After Ershad imposed martial law in 1982, the politician was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a special military court. In 1975, Ershad became a minister in the government with that sentence in mind. Then Moudud Ahmed became the Prime Minister and Vice President. After the fall of Ershad, he was in the Jatiya Party till 1996. Soon after, he returned to the BNP as if he was returning home. After the 2001 elections, he served as Minister of Law and Justice. Moudud Ahmed, who has a colorful political life, has chosen the two symbols – the sheaf of rice and the plow. Moudud Ahmed was elected five times from Companiganj upazila of Noakhali district.
Foreign minister mourns the death of Barister Moudud Ahmed. In a condolence message foreign minister AK Abdul Momen said, My acquaintances with Moudud Ahmed is long overdue. “When Moudud Ahmed was working with Bangabandhu, his closeness with me developed.
Dr Momen conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
