POBNEWS24, London May 11, 2025 : Bangladesh has been in the ‘red class’ of the World Bank’s food inflation. This class means that food inflation in the country is between 5 to 30 percent, which is considered as a huge challenge for food security in Bangladesh according to the current situation.
The World Bank publishes updated reports on food security and inflation every six months. According to workd bank , 15 countries, including Bangladesh, are currently in the red class.
The World Bank divided the countries into four categories for food inflation: purple, red, yellow, and green. Countries in the purple category have more than 30 percent of food inflation, 30 to 5 percent of the red class countries, 2 to 5 percent in the yellow class and less than 2 percent is in the green class.
According to the World Bank report, the prices of food items in the global market have dropped by 4 to 8 percent since February. However, in the coming days, prices are likely to rise, especially due to supply limitations and weather. The maize prices are currently in the highest position within 15 months, but the price of rice has reached the lowest level in two years.
Although high inflation has been going on for a while in Bangladesh, the rate of food inflation has increased veey high in the last one year and it has reached 5.7 percent.
