POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 28, 2025 : Bangladesh has reiterated its firm commitment to the ‘one China policy’. Dhaka has also said that it opposes ‘Taiwan independence’. At the same time, it has welcomed the participation of Chinese companies in the international auction for the ‘Testa River Integrated Management and Restoration Project’ project.
This information was given in a joint press release issued on Friday (March 28) on the occasion of the visit of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to China. In the release, both sides emphasized that the authority of ‘United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758’ is beyond any question or challenge.
Bangladesh’s position is that the ‘Government of the People’s Republic of China’ is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China and Taiwan is an integral part of China’s territory. Bangladesh opposes ‘Taiwan independence’. Bangladesh supports China on issues related to China’s core interests and China’s efforts to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus visited China on March 26 to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 in Hainan, China and to meet with the Chinese President. The Principal Advisor met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The Principal Advisor also met with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Vice President Han Zheng.
The statement said Bangladesh expressed gratitude for China’s long-term and strong support for Bangladesh’s economic and social development and praised the economic and social impact generated by China-Bangladesh cooperation projects such as bridges, roads, railways, networks, power grids and sewage systems.
China will continue to support Bangladesh in advancing infrastructure development and industrialization, and encourage Chinese companies to conduct investment cooperation with Bangladesh in areas such as textiles and garments, clean energy, digital economy, agriculture and manufacturing in accordance with commercial policies and market-oriented methods.
Bangladesh welcomes Chinese companies to participate in the Mongla Port Facility Modernization and Expansion Project and is ready to work with the Chinese side to further develop the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone in Chittagong.
