POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 15,2022 : Speaker of Jatiyo Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury said former finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was endowed with a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, human values and a colourful career.
The nation will forever remember his contribution with deep respect, she said.
She was speaking as the chief guest at a memorial programme, organized by Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA), at Hotel Sheraton in Banani in memory of the former minister.
She thanked the organizer for arranging such commemoration for paying homage to the former finance minister.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury said the country’s unimaginable development has taken place under the courageous leadership and far-sighted guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
During his tenure as the Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has carried out all the responsibilities in all the development activities under the direction of the Prime Minister and he had always tried to accept innumerable public welfare proposals in the annual budget, she said.
The Speaker said that Abdul Muhith had worked tirelessly to reduce the poverty rate, introduce various allowances for women in the social safety net, and implement the Prime Minister’s decision to motivate small and women entrepreneurs. Because he believed that the overall development of the country depends on ensuring the participation of half of the female population in the country’s economy.
This uniquely talent man who got opportunity in civil service from East Pakistan expressed his loyalty to the government of Bangladesh in 1971 while working in Pakistan embassy in the United States and later formed public opinion in favour of our liberation war in exile. For this reason, he was awarded the state’s highest civilian honor ‘Swadhinata Padak’ in 2016. The former finance minister, who had placed budget 11 times (9 times in a row), always loved Sylhet and expressed deep affection for Sylhet in various aspects during his working life, said the Speaker.
The commemoration was attended by invited guests, esteemed members of BPMCA, cultural and media personalities as well as senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat.
