A 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman was found dead in Bengaluru, India on Friday (January 25) morning. The police recovered her body. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the young woman was living in India illegally and her Bangladeshi passport or anything else was not found with her.
Police said that the name of the murdered young woman is Najma. She was married and lived there with her husband. Her body was found in Kalkere Lake in Ramamurthy Nagar on Friday morning. Police said that the rape and murder incident was carried out in retaliation for the current tense situation between India and Bangladesh.
A senior police officer told the media that the information given by her husband confirmed that Najma did not have any valid documents. Najma’s brother also confirmed the information. He also lives in this city. However, although Najma does not have any documents, her husband Suman has been legally living in India for the past six years. He also has a Bangladeshi passport. He works as a garbage collector for the city corporation there. The couple has three children at home. They live with their relatives in Bangladesh.
The report said that Najma worked as a helper in an apartment in Kalker. They lived in an area called Ramakrishna. Her workplace was nearby from there. She went missing after leaving the apartment after work last Thursday.
Then on Friday morning, the police received an emergency message from passersby. They saw Najma’s body lying in a secluded place in the lake. The police went and found that Najma had been hit on the head and face. In addition, there were clear signs of strangulation. This suggests that she had been attacked.
The initial police assumption is that she had been hit on the head with a stone. They said that the extent of sexual brutality on her would be known through the forensic report. Police are currently trying to find those involved in the murder.
Bangladesh is not looking favorably on the incident of the rape and murder of a Bangladeshi girl in India. Segunbagicha has expressed its condemnation of the incident.
