Bangladesh’s labor law has been made world class: Commerce Minister

POBNEWS24, April 28, 2022 : Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that America is a friend of Bangladesh. Trade and economic relations between the two countries are long standing. The United States is a major market for garment exports to Bangladesh. Bangladesh has made it world class by amending the labor law for the sustainable development of the readymade garments sector.

The factories of the country have been made safe and work friendly. Building and electricity safety has been ensured.

Newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D. on Thursday in his office in the Secretariat. He said this while exchanging views with Haas. This is the first meeting of the Commerce Minister with the newly appointed US Ambassador.

Mentioning that the garment workers of Bangladesh are now working in a safe environment, he said that there are 156 factories certified by Lead Green Garments Factory of USA in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has 9 of the top 10 green factories in the world. Bangladesh is now the second largest exporter of readymade garments in the world. Although the cost of production of readymade garments in Bangladesh has increased, the buyers have not increased the price in comparison. It is necessary to ensure fair price of garments made in Bangladesh.

The Commerce Minister said the work of setting up 100 special economic zones in important places of the country under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is progressing fast. The work of many is now in its final stages. US investors will benefit if they invest in Bangladesh’s special economic zone. The Bangladesh government is providing special facilities to investors.

At the time, US Ambassador Peter D. Haas said Bangladesh is a friend and important country of the United States. Economic and trade relations between the two countries are long standing. Bangladesh’s development partner. The development of Bangladesh is now visible. Bangladesh has already become a developing country by graduating from LDC. In the days to come, US economic and trade relations with Bangladesh will be further enhanced.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said Bangladesh is trying to sign trade agreements like PTA or FTA to facilitate trade with different countries. Even if Bangladesh loses tariff temporarily, Bangladesh will benefit in the long run.
