POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 14, 2021: Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has sought the intervention of the country’s Information Ministry to stop the practice of hiring journalists in the name of illegal IP TV.

At a meeting of the executive Committee of the organization on Friday (Aug 13), it expressed concern that the unapproved IP TV is running a business in the name of hiring journalists everywhere.

Such a practice is giving birth to negative perception about the media and the journalistic community. The meeting also demanded an end to extortion in the name of journalists’ organizations in different parts of the capital.

Speaking on the occasion, DUJ President Quddus Afrad said that Bhuiphor IP TV and online news agency were trading on recruitment of journalists without the approval of the government. It gave the wrong message about the media.

Referring to different news published and disseminated in different media, he said, extortion was going on in the name of various journalist organizations in the capital.

He called on the law enforcement agencies to crack down on them.

In his introductory speech, Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu, General Secretary of DUJ, said that IP TV is operating from different parts of the country in violation of the law. These institutions do not follow the rules and regulations of journalism.

In many cases it has become the cause of mass harassment. Promoting misleading information is creating confusion at different times, which is one of the obstacles to smooth development of the media, he added.

DUJ Vice President MA Quddus, Joint Secretary Khairul Alam, Treasurer Ashraful Islam, Organizing Secretary A Jihadur Rahman, Publicity Secretary Ashaduzzaman, Sports and Cultural Secretary Dulal Khan, Public Welfare Secretary Soheli Chowdhury, Office Secretary Jannatul Ferdous took part in the discussion.

DUJ members Sakila Parveen, Shahnaz Parveen Ellis, Raju Hamid, Ibrahim Khalil Khokon, Ajit Mahaldar, Bir Muktijoddha Salimullah Selim, AM Shahjahan Mia, Anup Khastgir and Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury, DUJ Unit Head of Nagorik Tv Ataur Rahman Jewel and others were also present.
