POBNEWS24, Gopalgonj, Jul 25, 2021: Though an arbitration meeting aimed at restoring communal harmony was held at Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj district in Bangladesh, a tense situation is still prevailing there.
Despite the successful arbitration meeting yesterday (Saturday) , police have still been deployed at Parakata village of Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj district.
It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the Member of Parliament from Kotalipara-Tungipara constituency.
Public representatives and administration officials in an arbitration meeting asked the both sides to remain calm.
Local sources said, over 50 people, including policemen, were injured in a clash over a football match at Parakata village on July 21.
It was learned that on the afternoon of July 19, the teenagers of Parakata village divided into two groups took part in a football match on local Bishnupur Janakalyan High School ground.
There was an altercation between the two sides on that day over the issue of winning and losing the game.
In a sequel to it, on Wednesday (July 21) morning, Sajal Gain, 18, son of Swapan Gain of Parakata village had a hot altercation with Jamal Mallick, 38, son of Azahar Mallick.
Later, two groups of villagers were engaged in a communal clash.
On information, police from Kotalipara Police Station and Bhangarhat Naval Investigation Center rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
More than 50 men, women, children and policemen were injured in the hour-long clash.
Shops and houses of Hindu community were also ransacked during the clash.
Kotalipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Aminul Islam said police have been deployed at the spot.
No complaint was lodged with the police station in this regard. Legal action will be taken if any complaint is done, he said.
