POBNEWS24, Desk report Oct 1,2021 :Along with the increase in internet users in the country, cyber crime is also on the rise. To be safe in this world, everyone must be aware. Laws and regulations should be discussed and publicized.
The speakers said this at a press conference organized by the National Committee on Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCCAM) at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital on Friday. October is Cyber Security Awareness Month in many parts of the world. This year’s theme is ‘Be aware, be cyber smart’.
A month-long program was also announced in Bangladesh at the initiative of NCM. In the first week cyber smart hoi, in the second week phishing prevention, in the third week career in cyber security and in the fourth week first of all various workshops on cyber security will be organized.
Iqbal Hossain, president of the Dhaka chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and convener of NCCAM, said the number of internet users as well as social media users is increasing in the country. That’s the positive side. But it also has its downsides. A lot of personal information is going to be used while using these mediums, which should never be disclosed. There is no substitute for being aware of the cyber world.
Elaborating on the Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation’s 2020 data, NSCAM member secretary Rashna Imam said the incidence of online hacking was 26.31 per cent, up 13 per cent from the previous year. Most of the victims are between 18 and 30 years old. He said that account hacking or data theft has increased in cyber crime in the country in 2019-20.
Rashna Imam further said that cyber security is not just the responsibility of the organization or the state, it is the personal responsibility of everyone. If security measures can be taken and awareness can be raised from their respective places, then this world will be safe for all and information will be safe.
Sanjay Chakraborty, vice president of Robi’s cyber security and privacy department, said technology is changing very fast. If we want to keep ourselves safe in the cyber world, we have to build a social movement in this regard.
At present the country needs 26 GB bandwidth. But Imdadul Haque, general secretary of the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh, said he would look into how many GBs are used for productive work. He insisted on guidelines for parents to use the Internet.
Kazi Mustafiz, president of the Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation, said the law on cyber security needs to be learned and promoted.
