POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 22, 2023 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United States on a very important visit in the recent context. During the visit, he will participate in several meetings and dinners with US President Joe Biden. But the White House said that Joe Biden will not give any ‘lecture’ on human rights to the Indian Prime Minister.
The United States wants India’s side to counter China’s growing hegemony. India, the most populous country in the world today, also wants to increase its influence on the world stage. During the visit, Modi and Biden are expected to announce various agreements related to defense cooperation, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and investment in India.
White House National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan told reporters last Tuesday that Biden will raise US concerns about India’s decline in democracy index and attacks on Muslims and other minorities before Modi. However, he will not go to listen to Modi’s speech on this matter.
He said, we voice our opinion whenever we see challenges to press, religious or other freedoms. But this work does not wish to lecture or claim that we do not have our own challenges.
Above all, Indians will decide where the question of politics and democratic institutions in India will go, Sullivan said. It will not be determined by the United States.
Since becoming Prime Minister of India in 2014, Narendra Modi has visited the US five times. But this is his first state visit with full diplomatic status.
