POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 18, 2021 : The party’s lawmakers have demanded that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia be sent abroad again for better treatment. They also threatened to resign from parliament if their demands were not met. In reply, the law minister reiterated that the government has no chance to go beyond the law. If you can show the provisions of the law, it will be considered.

BNP MP Golam Mohammad (GM) Siraj inaugurated the discussion on the issue of point of order in the National Assembly on Thursday. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session, the party’s MPs Mosharraf Hossain and Md. Harunur Rashid. There was a commotion in the session room during this discussion.

Initiating the discussion, GM Siraj said, “There are six of us (BNP party) in this parliament.” Friends of the Awami League said, “This is an ornament for this parliament.” Today, I would like to say that, Prime Minister, if we are truly ornaments, then do not make this Parliament without ornaments. Our party’s decision may be like this, if Madam goes to extremes, then it may not be possible for us to be in this Parliament. I’m not betting on it. At this time his mic was turned off.

Earlier, the BNP MP said, “I would like to request the Prime Minister to send the former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia abroad on bail in a couple of days for humanitarian reasons.” Otherwise, if something happens, the Awami League will have to bear the responsibility for life. He further said, “I have heard the long statement of the law minister under section 401 regarding bail.” Yesterday (Wednesday) I heard the Prime Minister’s statement. Which has made headlines in all the daily newspapers. The Prime Minister took an oath not to be angry. But the language of the oath clashes with his statement yesterday (Wednesday). Is it right or wrong?

GM Siraj pointed out that some of the convicted leaders had gone abroad for medical treatment, adding that former MP ASM Rabb had also gone abroad while on conviction. Leader of Parliament or we also go abroad for treatment. In that case, why former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will not be allowed to go abroad? This is his fundamental right. The people of the country think that whatever the current Prime Minister wants, it will happen. Do so. He is the owner of all power.

He further said that people all over the country including Bogra are praying for Khaleda Zia. His physical condition has been deteriorating since the post-Kavid. Which is pushing him towards death day by day. Five requests have been made from the leader’s family. Repeated appeals from our team. Our request is to send Madam abroad for treatment in a day or two with immediate bail.

BNP MP Mohammad expressed his support for taking part in the unscheduled talks. Harunur Rashid. Earlier, participating in the discussion on the bill, another member of the party, Mosharraf Hossain, said, “Our leader Khaleda Zia is suffering from kidney, liver, lung and high blood pressure and is fighting to the death in the hospital.” The Prime Minister has shown a lot of humanity. A little more humanity we expect.

In response, Law Minister Anisul Haque said, “I don’t want to talk about it again.” According to what the law says, the Prime Minister has given instructions for humanitarian reasons. However, Khaleda Zia’s sentence was suspended and she was granted bail. It is not in the law books of Bangladesh. If they can show. Then we can consider. But they can’t show. And the question of consideration does not come.

He further added that they had sent ASM Abdur Rab to Germany for treatment. I don’t know in which section it happened. Then there was martial law. That section does not go with the criminal procedure. They did as they pleased. Where there is rule of law today, we cannot do as we please.

The law minister said Khaleda Zia was being treated properly. It is up to them whether they are satisfied or dissatisfied with the treatment. But there is no opportunity to apply for disposal under section 401. They can abuse me as much as they want but it doesn’t matter to me. I will abide by the law.
