POBNEWS24,Dhaka, Jan18, 2025 : Several Bangladeshis were injured in an attack by BSF and Indians while trying to prevent an attempt to intrude through the Kiranganj border in Chapainawabganj and cut down tree branches. The BSF has expressed regret over the incident in the face of strong protests from the BGB.
A flag meeting was held between the BGB and BSF on Saturday around 4 pm in this incident. The BSF asked to look at the matter with apologetic eyes in the meeting.
59 BGB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria said that there was a chase and counter-chase between the border residents of the two countries over the cutting of trees within the Bangladesh border. Later, the Indians retreated with immediate action by the BGB and a flag meeting was held between the BGB and BSF around 4 pm. At the flag meeting, the BSF expressed regret over the incident and asked to look at the matter with apologetic eyes in the matter of cutting trees.
He said that the situation is normal at present.
The clash took place around 11 am on Saturday (January 18). Additional BGB and BSF personnel were then deployed on both sides of the border.
Locals said that around 12:30 pm, the BSF and more than a hundred Indians suddenly entered the Indian border area and cut down 12 to 15 mango trees on the Bangladesh side. Later, the BGB patrol team called on the locals for cooperation through mikes. At that time, the locals rushed to the border area to help the BGB. Tension arose on both sides.
They also said that at that time, the BSF members hurled 4 sound grenades and tear shells. The local Indians pelted stones. Several Bangladeshis were injured in this. Later, the Indians fled, leaving the cut trees and branches behind.
Upon receiving the information, the BGB went to contact the BSF to normalize the situation. Later, a flag meeting was held between the BGB and BSF. In the face of strong protests from the BGB, the BSF expressed regret for the situation.
