POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Oct 9, 2023 : It is possible to build a smart Bangladesh by utilizing the natural beauty of mountains, rivers and passes in Bandarban hill district for tourism. For this, civil society and media should play an effective role.
Speakers said this at the discussion meeting titled “Role of Media and Civil Society in Building Smart Bangladesh” at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban today.
Regional Information Office (PID) in collaboration with Bandarban District Administration and District Information Office organized the discussion meeting in Chittagong.
Regional Information Office (PID) Chittagong Deputy Chief Information Officer Mir Hossain Ahsanul Kabir presided over the function as chief guest was Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Shah Mojahid Uddin. Bandarban District Assistant Superintendent of Police Amjad Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Fazlur Rahman, President of Bandarban Press Club Aminul Islam Bachchu, General Secretary of Press Club Didarul Haque, District Primary Education Officer Abdul Mannan and brave freedom fighter Safiqur Rahman participated in the discussion.
The Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban said in the chief guest’s speech that Bandarban is the third largest and tourism dependent district in terms of area. Keeping in mind the prosperity of the district, the tourist spots have been increased from 64 to 84. An app has been launched keeping in mind the travel convenience and safety of foreign tourists. Bandarban district smarting activities and action plan will be implemented with tourism industry.
As the keynote speaker, Senior Deputy Chief Information Officer Abdul Jalil said, Smart Bangladesh means the development of materialistic spirit as well as human spirit. The best use of existing resources and capabilities at the local level should be ensured by strengthening technological skills and innovation. He mentioned that the role of civil society and mass media is important in forming the four pillars of Smart Bangladesh, Smart Citizen, Smart Economy, Smart Government and Smart Society.
In the discussion, the speakers said that in order to realize the dream of building a smart Bangladesh after Digital Bangladesh, it is necessary to strengthen the social safety net in addition to exploiting the local tourism potential. The establishment of export-oriented industries centered on natural resources in the hilly areas should be progressed. They suggested making access to information easier in government offices.
Speakers also said that media workers should be efficient and useful in using technology to create Smart Bangladesh. In this case, the government can create various opportunities for media workers including training, setting up digital labs, digital archiving. Keeping in mind the linguistic diversity of the 11 ethnic groups living in Bandarban, he suggested the development of a translator (translation) app.
It is to be noted that more than hundred representatives of civil society including print, electronic and registered online media journalists working in Bandarban, government officials working at the district level, heroic freedom fighters, development aid organizations, teachers participated in the event.
