POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 15, 2021: A month has passed since the vandalism, assault and arson of idols at various places in the district centered on the desecration of the Holy Quran in the temporary puja mandapa on the banks of Nanua Dighi in Comilla city. But the investigation of the case is stuck in interrogation and remand. However, the CID said the chargesheets in the two cases would be filed this month.
According to police sources, 98 people have been arrested so far in 12 cases. Iqbal Hossain, the main accused in the blasphemy case, and six others have given confessional statements in court. Of the cases, five are being investigated by CID, four by PBI and three by Kotwali Model Police Station.
Khan Muhammad Rezwan, special superintendent of police for Comilla and Noakhali divisions of the CID, said yesterday afternoon, “Those who instructed Iqbal to keep the Holy Quran in the mandapa, their names have been found. The names are being checked and selected.
Meanwhile, the district administration has formed an investigation committee, the police headquarters has formed an investigation committee and the district police has formed an investigation committee. None of the reports of these committees have been published.
District Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed said, “Investigation committee is working.”
PBI Comilla District Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said, “The cases (four cases) came to us a week ago.”
