POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 3, 2021 :US President Joe Biden has said that Russia and China have failed to take the lead in the ongoing COP-17 conference on climate change. He also said that the Chinese president had made a “big mistake” by not attending the conference. He also criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin. Biden said this on Tuesday, local time. Khabar Al-Jazeera.
The COP-28 climate conference is being held in Glasgow, Scotland. On the eve of leaving Glasgow on Tuesday, Biden told reporters that China is continuing its efforts to establish itself as a new leader in world politics. However, they did not meet at the climate conference.
The US president said the climate crisis is a huge problem. And China has avoided it. Even after doing so, how do they claim their own leadership? Not attending the conference is a ‘big mistake’ for China. The whole world was looking at China. The question is, to what extent are they playing a role in tackling climate change?
China is the world’s largest carbon emitter. President Xi Jinping did not attend the current COP-27 conference
Meanwhile, relations between China and the United States have reached a tipping point on various issues. The U.S. administration has repeatedly expressed concern over Chinese warplanes and human rights abuses along Taiwan’s air defenses. The two countries are trying to develop diplomatic relations in everything. Due to this, Biden and Si Chin Ping had a phone conversation on September 9. A senior U.S. official said last month that another meeting was scheduled for later this year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also did not attend the climate conference. Biden also strongly criticized Russia’s move. Russia is the fourth largest emitter of carbon in the world. Biden told reporters that Putin was in serious financial trouble. Even then he is not interested in taking any action.
However, the Kremlin has already denied US allegations that Russia is not taking appropriate action to address the climate crisis. On Monday, the country’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was continuing its efforts to resolve the crisis. The country will continue to work to reduce climate pressure. But it is a process that requires all countries to come forward.
