POBNEWS24, Dhaka, 25 July 2022: Deputy Speaker. Fazle Rabbi Mia’s body reached Dhaka. Today Monday (July 25) his body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:30 AM on an Air Emirates flight from New York. Deputy Speaker’s Public Relations Officer Swapan Kumar Biswas told the media this information.  

According to the sources of the Parliament Secretariat, when a current or former Member of Parliament dies, it is customary to hold his funeral at the National Parliament Building.

However, the Deputy Speaker’s funeral is not being held here due to the closure of the Sangsad Bhawan due to the Covid situation.

 

Deputy Speaker’s public relations officer Swapan Kumar Biswas said that the first funeral will be held at 10:30 am at the Supreme Court premises after the body returns to the country. The body will be taken by helicopter from the Supreme Court to Gaibandha. He will be buried in the family crematorium after his funeral at Bharatkhali school grounds.

It should be noted that on Friday (July 22) at 2 o’clock in the morning, Gaibandha-5 Constituency Member of Parliament Advocate Md. Fazle Rabbi Miah breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, USA (4 pm New York time). He was 76 years old at the time of his death.

In 1971, the great war of independence of Bangladesh. Fazle Rabbi Mia participated as a freedom fighter in sector number 11. Apart from this, he also worked to build global public opinion in favor of Bangladesh’s independence.

Md. Fazle Rabbi Mia was elected Member of Parliament from Gaibandha-5 constituency in 1986 third, 1988 fourth, 1991 fifth and 12th June 1996 seventh parliamentary elections. In 1989, he also served as the State Minister in the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. He served as Opposition Whip in the Fifth and Seventh Parliaments. In the Seventh National Parliament, he served as a member of the Government Institutions Committee and the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

He was elected as a member of parliament as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League from Gaibandha-5 seat in 2008 ninth, 2014 tenth and 2011 eleventh national parliamentary elections. In the 9th National Parliament, he served as the Chairman of the Committee on Government Commitments, Working Advisory Committee, Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure. At that time, he first served as a member of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and later as the President.   

From the tenth parliament. Fazle Rabbi Miah is serving as Deputy Speaker. Apart from this, he served as the President of the Parliament Library Committee, Member of the Working Advisory Committee, Member of the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Member of the Petition Committee.

Fazle Rabbi Mia has been serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament for the second consecutive term after being elected as a Member of Parliament for the seventh time on the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League in the 11th National Parliament Election. At that time he was a member of the Working Advisory Committee and the Petition Committee and the President of the Library Committee.
