Salman F Rahman, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment, will lead the party on behalf of Bangladesh. State Minister for Foreign Affairs. Shahriar Alam is also in the delegation. The US delegation will be led by Jose W. Fernandez, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment.
Sources said that the day-long dialogue in Washington will focus on food and agriculture assistance, garment industry, energy, medicine, information technology, telecom, etc. The labor rights situation in Bangladesh may prevail in the dialogue.
The United States, meanwhile, could raise the issue of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity. US President Joe Biden announced the IPEFP during a visit to Japan last month. The United States wants Bangladesh in this economic structure.
US Ambassador Peter Haas said on Tuesday that US officials had been briefing Bangladesh on the issue since the beginning of the economic framework process.
