POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Apr 24, 2023: Hero freedom fighter Md. As Sahabuddin was sworn in as the 22nd President of Bangladesh, a doa mahfil, distribution of sweets and a joyous procession were held in his home district Pabna.
On Monday (April 24) at noon, the swearing-in ceremony of the President was shown on a big screen at the Pabna District Awami League office. Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony on the TV screen, a prayer ceremony was held at the district Awami League office to wish His Excellency the President long life and success.
After the prayer, sweets were distributed among the common people on the initiative of the MP of Pabna Sadar Constituency and District Awami League General Secretary Golam Farooq Prince.
Later, a joyous procession was taken out under the leadership of District Awami League President Rezaul Rahim Lal. At that time, leaders of district Awami League and allied organizations were present.
People of Pabna expect the new president to play a role in building a smart Bangladesh. He will also contribute to the economic and social development of his own district Pabna.
Drama personality Abdul Hannan Shelley said that although the new president is a child of Pabna, now he is a member of the whole country. Still, Pabna residents have high expectations from him. We demand to start two trains connecting the new railway line of Pabna with Dhaka. As well as setting up an agricultural university, there would be demands to make the government Edward College, where he studied, a full-fledged university and the RM Academy.
Veteran Awami League leader Vijay Bhushan Roy said, “We hope that the new president will work to establish the non-discrimination social system that he has talked about by carrying the ideals of Bangabandhu.”
District Awami League General Secretary Ghulam Farooq Prince said that a new hope has spread around His Excellency the President. We hope that through that we can take the development of Pabna further.
District Awami League President Rezaul Rahim Lal said that he did not bow down to anyone in Pabna politics. Did not compromise with anyone. We hope that we will win five seats in Pabna in the next elections with the image of the new president. The golden crown that the prime minister has given him, I hope he will do his duty for the welfare of the country even if he gives his life.
Incidentally, Md. was born on December 10, 1949 in the house of Lakshisagar area of Shivrampur in Pabna city. Sahabuddin. Father Sharfuddin Ansari was a businessman, and mother Khairun Nessa was a housewife. Sahabuddin is the eldest among four brothers and six sisters. In personal life, he is the father of a son.
In 1966, Sahabuddin passed secondary school from Radhanagar Majumdar Academy in Pabna city. After that he passed HSC and BSc with merit from Government Edward College. He then received his MSc in Psychology from Rajshahi University in 1974 and LLB in 1975 from Shahid Aminuddin Law College, Pabna.
In his political career, he served as the president of Pabna District Chhatra League and District Jubo League President. When Bakshal was formed in 1975, he was nominated joint general secretary of the Pabna district committee. He was arrested under martial law after August 15 that year.
Later, he worked as a journalist for a few years in Daily Bangla’s Bani newspaper. This brave freedom fighter trained in India took part in the liberation war. He started his career as an assistant judge in 1982 immediately after the BCS examination. He retired in 2006 as District and Sessions Judge.
From 2011 to 2016 served as Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission. He is a life member of Pabna Press Club. Press Club Welfare Fund was started with his advice and support for the welfare of journalists. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Awami League’s publicity and publication sub-committee.
