In the first ODI of the series, they scored 498 runs for 4 wickets. Which is the highest score in ODI history. Three batsmen have scored centuries.
The previous record for the highest score (481 runs) was also held by England. This time they have broken their own record.
The Netherlands sent England to bat after winning the toss at the VRA ground in Amstelveen on Friday. This decision may be tomorrow for them. The start of England, however, hinted at something else. Jason Roy (1) was bowled for just 1 run. Then history is made. Another opener Phil Salt and three-man David Malan averaged 222 runs. Salt made 122 off 93 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes and Malan made 125 off 109 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes.
Jos Butler, who came down to number four, did not go less. He is playing a devastating batting innings of 162 runs off just 60 balls. His unbeaten innings included 6 fours and 14 sixes! His partnership with David Malan was 164 runs. Which only came to say 90. He also made an unbeaten 91 * with Liam Livingstone. Livingstone remained unbeaten on 6 * in 7 fours with 22 balls to spare.
In 2016, England scored 461 runs for 7 wickets against Nottingham against Australia. That was the highest team score in ODIs so far. England also has the third highest 444 runs in this format. They scored this score against Pakistan in Nottingham in 2016.
