POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 13, 2022 : The memories of the 92 World Cup did not return to Melbourne. Imran Khan could not be Babar Azam. England became the T20 world champion for the second time by beating Pakistan by 5 wickets in the thrilling final. In 2010, they won the championship for the first time in this format.

Pakistani bowlers were bowling well even with low capital. But 137 runs was not enough to stop England. On the other hand, after the 2019 ODI World Cup, Ben Stokes made a big contribution to England winning another World Cup.

England defeated Alex Hales who played a devastating innings in the semi-final by 7 runs in the run chase on Sunday. Hales (1) was bowled by Shaheen Afridi in the first over. Phil Salt (9) was bowled by Iftikhar in the fourth over by Haris Rauf. England’s run was 32. Ben Stokes came to the wicket. Pakistan’s three pacers Shaheen-Haris and Naseem were bowling brilliantly. Haris Rauf gave England a big blow in the sixth over. English captain Jos Buttler was caught by his ball in the gloves of keeper Rizwan.

His innings ended with 26 runs off 16 balls. At the other end, Ben Stokes was washing up. He collected only 1 run in the first 5 balls. England scored 45 runs in the Powerplay losing three wickets. His partnership with Harry Brooke also piled up but the runs were coming slowly. Finally, this pair of 39 runs from 41 balls was broken by the departure of Harry Brook. Brook scored 20 runs off 23 balls after falling victim to Shadab Khan. 41 runs were needed in the last 5 overs. Shaheen Afridi left the field due to injury after coming to play the 16th over. Pakistan suffers a big blow.

Iftikhar bowled the remaining 5 balls of the over. Ben Stokes took control of the match by hitting four sixes in that over. Bedam Mar Khan Wasim in the next over as well. England’s victory was only a matter of time. Wasim’s 19th over was bowled by Moeen Ali who scored 19 off 12 balls. Broke the fifth wicket pair of 48 runs off 35 balls. Ben Stokes completes his fifty by hitting a boundary on the fourth ball. The scores of the two teams also became equal. England reached the port of victory by 5 wickets with one over in hand on the last ball shot by Stokes. Stokes remained unbeaten on 52 runs off 49 balls.

Earlier, after losing the toss and batting, Pakistan scored 137 runs for 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. 29 runs came from the opening pair of Babar-Rizwan. Rizwan, who scored 15 runs off 14 balls, was bowled by Sam Karan and this pair broke in the fifth over. 39 runs came in the powerplay. Then Mohammad Haris was caught by Ben Stokes in the palm of Adil Rashid. Haris, who is known as a hard hitter, scored 8 runs in 12 balls. Rashid’s second victim is Babar Azam. He cut and bowled the Pakistan captain who scored 32 runs off 28 balls. Iftikhar also failed. He returned with a catch behind the wicket off Ben Stokes without scoring any runs in 6 balls.

After that, Shan Masood and Shadab Khan continued to take Pakistan forward by forming a pair. Their score left three figures in 14.3 overs. After that, Pakistan kept losing wickets regularly. The pair of 36 runs was broken by Sam Curren’s delivery of Shan Masood who scored 38 runs. Shadab Khan’s 20-run innings from 14 balls was stopped by Chris Woakes’ delivery from Chris Jordan. After that, Karen’s third victim was Mohammad Nawaz (5). Jordan returned Wasim (4) in the last over. Pakistan scored 137 runs for 8 wickets at Tennetun. Sam Curren took 3 wickets for 12 runs. Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan took two wickets each. All-rounder Ben Stokes took one.
