POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 15, 2021 : Former MP and former deputy mayor SA Khaleque, a senior BNP leader and member of the central executive committee, has been admitted to hospital due to illness.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP chairperson’s press wing, said on Saturday (August 14th) night that the 93-year-old veteran BNP leader had been ill for some time.
He was admitted to United Hospital on Saturday with a sudden rise in body temperature and shortness of breath.
On behalf of the family, BNP’s Dhaka North youth leader and his son Abu Bakar Siddique Shaju asked the people to pray for his recovery.
SA Khaleque has served as the Deputy Mayor of Undivided Dhaka City Corporation. He joined the BNP through Ziaur Rahman and was elected a Member of Parliament for the first time from the then Dhaka-14 constituency in the second parliamentary elections held on 18 February 1979.
Third Jatiya Sangsad elections held on 7 May 1986 In the 4th Jatiya Sangsad elections held on 3 March 1988, SA Khaleque was elected Member of Parliament from Dhaka-11 constituency on the nomination of Jatiya Party.
Prior to the Sixth National Election in February 1996, he returned to the BNP and was elected Member of Parliament.
He was last elected as a Member of Parliament from Dhaka-11 constituency in 2001 in the 8th Parliamentary Election.
In the ninth general election of 2008, he was defeated by taking part in the nomination of BNP from Dhaka-14 constituency.
Abu Bakar Siddique Saju, son of SA Khaleque was defeated by BNP in his father’s seat in the Eleventh Parliamentary Election held in 2018.
