POBNEWS24, Dhaka Apr 18,2023 : A total of 48 leaders and activists of BNP have been sentenced to different jail terms in a case filed over the attack on the motorcade of then leader of the opposition and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira in 2002.
Four persons including former lawmaker and district BNP President Habibul Islam Habib have been sentenced to life term in jail and 44 others sentenced to seven years in jail.
Judge of Satkhira Special Tribunal-3 Biswanath Mondal announced the verdict on Tuesday.
According to the case statement, on 30 August, 2002, Sheikh Hasina, the then opposition chief, came to visit the wife of a freedom fighter, who was raped and was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Sheikh Hasina was returning to Jashore after visiting the freedom fighter’s wife and her convoy came under attack in Kalaroa upazila of the district.
