POBNEWS24,Dhaka Dec 29, 2021: Law Minister Anisul Haque has commented that Facebook users are doing journalism from home. The law minister made the remarks at a function at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Wednesday.
Anisul Haque said, ‘Everyone has become a journalist now due to the spread of social media. Real journalists are being challenged because everyone has become a journalist. Those who study and work in this profession are now cornered by social media users. Those of you who have become journalists by studying have made themselves mentally. But Facebook users are doing journalism sitting at home. This is the difference, you have to fight for this difference and survive. ‘
The law minister said, ‘You are the ones who are educated and trained to do real journalism. That is why you have to be aware of the place where professionalism does not come. That responsibility is also yours. The government will help you in that place.
He said that the information of the crime is being given by the journalists many times before the law enforcement agencies know about it. Everyone has the responsibility to maintain law and order in the country. The good relations between the journalists and the law enforcement agencies have deepened. There are as many talk shows in our country as there are in the media of other countries. It cannot be said that there is no freedom of speech. Objective journalism is also happening.
He added, “Bangladesh needs a digital security law. But I also know that it has been abused. I have taken steps to stop it. I started the dialogue at the United Nations last year. Discussions are underway on what can be done to stop the misuse of the Digital Security Act. In order to have the best practice, they can be kept in the rules by the power of law so that the law is not abused.
