POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 2, 2022 : Four-time champion Germany has been eliminated from the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar. Germany did not advance to the second round despite beating Costa Rica 4-2 in the ‘E’ group match on Thursday night. In the other match, Japan beat Spain 2-1 and went to the knockout stage as the best of this group.

From the start of the match at the Al Bait Stadium, the Germans began to dominate Costa Rica.

Sergi Ganerbi put Germany ahead with a goal in the tenth minute of the match. Yeltsin Tajeda equalized in the 58th minute. Watson’s head was saved by Manuel Neuer. But could not hold the ball. Tajeda shot the return ball and scored.

In the 70th minute of the match, Vargas headed gently. Manuel Neuer didn’t notice. The ball hit his feet and went into the German net. The goal was ruled as an own goal. Kai Havertz, who came on as a substitute for Thomas Müller, brought Germany back into the match three minutes later. He scored his second goal in the 85th minute. Nikolaus Fulkrug scored in the 89th minute to secure Germany’s 4-2 victory.

In the other match, Ashi’s country Japan won 2-1 despite falling behind at the Khalifa International Stadium. Group leader Japan has 6 points in 3 matches, and Spain has 4 points. Although Germany had 4 points, Thomas Müller was behind in goal difference. Costa Rica points 3.
