POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 31, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in Parliament today that the government is taking necessary measures to reduce the suffering of the people in this adverse situation worldwide. He said, ‘We will do whatever is necessary to reduce the suffering of the people and the Awami League government is doing it. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while participating in a general discussion on a proposal brought by the opposition Jatiya Party Law MP Mujibul Haque Chunnu.

Chunnu presented the proposal titled, Parliament’s opinion is the short and long-term sustainable measures taken by the government to deal with the problems of Covid-19, global instability, Ukraine-Russia war, climate change, natural disasters, energy crisis, rising commodity prices.

Nation should be informed through discussion in Parliament.

Leader of the Parliament Sheikh Hasina briefed the government’s initiatives to deal with the situation caused by the year-long Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that the government is taking all these steps so that the country does not fall into food crisis. Sheikh Hasina also reiterated the call to use every inch of land for food production.

In this context, he said, due to the high price of imported goods, the amount of import expenditure has been increased by an additional 9 billion US dollars. “We are analyzing the situation comprehensively on a regular basis,” he said, adding, “The government is not relying on the analysis of researchers, rather we are analyzing ourselves and taking action based on the people’s situation.” ‘

Highlighting the various steps taken by the Awami League government for the overall development of the country, Sheikh Hasina said in the parliament, ‘Anyway, I want to say that we have surveillance in every case. In response to the question that the construction of the Padma bridge will bring returns, the head of government said in the parliament, ‘I can say one thing here. All the projects that we have undertaken so far i.e. we always keep in view to bring our economic dynamism and that is our development. In this case our return will come in any project but we look at it first.

He said, we got a huge offer and took the project because we would get a big commission from it, but we didn’t do it. But it was done during Zia’s tenure, it was done during General Ershad’s tenure, it was done during Khaleda Zia’s tenure. We have many proofs of this.

Addressing those who complained that there was corruption during the Awami League government, the Prime Minister said, those who talk about corruption today are because of this corruption, the World Bank stopped the money for Siddhirganj Power Plant. Dhaka-Mymensingh road was closed.

Highlighting the construction of Padma bridge with own funding, the head of government said, ‘From 26th June to 25th August, a total of 138 crore 84 lakh 3 thousand 850 taka has been collected for the toll of Padma bridge. As a result of the construction of Padma Bridge, the products produced in the southern region are going to the market very easily and the employment of the people of that region is increasing. The prime minister also said that people’s fate is changing due to communication system.

Reminding that the promise of providing electricity to every house has also been fulfilled, Sheikh Hasina said, it is unfortunate that today is Corona and then this war in Ukraine. Ukraine Russia war and sanctions today put us in danger. And we don’t. Where the developed countries are in danger, they are where they are becoming affordable. They are limiting electricity.

Apart from highlighting the economic plight of various countries in the world amid the Russia-Ukraine war and the resulting sanctions and counter-sanctions, the prime minister also told the parliament about the various steps taken by the Awami League government by highlighting the image of Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister said, I will say that the welfare of the people of our country is the greatest for us. If people suffer, at least it hurts my heart because my father sacrificed his life for the people of this country. So I think that you all also need cooperation. Don’t mislead people with just a bunch of false information. That’s my point.
