POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 21, 2022 : Stating that Awami League will never forget the contribution of freedom fighters, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ‘The government has built the country in the spirit and ideals of the liberation war. We will never forget the contribution of freedom fighters for this country. Therefore, we have taken the initiative to build Bangladesh in the spirit and ideals of the liberation war. ‘
On the occasion of Armed Forces Day, he said this at the felicitation ceremony of armed forces’ titled freedom fighters and their heirs at Dhaka Cantonment on Monday.
Pointing out that ‘because I was able to stay in power three times in a row, I got the opportunity to do something for the people’, the Prime Minister said, ‘I am taking all kinds of cooperation measures by finding the freedom fighters who were completely neglected. We are making arrangements for their allowances, state honors when they die, and even their burial. ‘
He said, ‘It is our job to honor and give dignity to those who took up arms and liberated this country at the call of my father. Teams may differ but I have never underestimated or neglected their contribution. We will remember your (freedom fighters) contribution forever. We are working to preserve the memory of the Liberation War. ‘
He said, ‘If the young generation can see the history of liberation war and know the history of victory, then they will be motivated and know how to work for the country. For this purpose, the government is establishing a freedom fighter complex in every upazila and has taken measures to preserve the historic Suhrawardy Udyan where the Father of the Nation gave his historic 7th March speech, gave instructions to run the country after independence and Pakistani occupation, and the Pakistani forces surrendered. No one will ever disrespect freedom fighters. In the future no one will look down on the freedom fighters and their families. ‘
Referring to a Bangladesh that has changed after the government has been in power for 14 consecutive years, he said, ‘We have achieved the goal we set in the 2008 elections to make the country a middle-income country. We celebrated the birth centenary of the father of the nation in 2020 and the golden jubilee of independence in 2021 and got the status of a developing country at that time. The father of the nation gave Bangladesh the status of the least developed country of the United Nations during the reconstruction of the war-torn country in just three and a half years. ‘
The Prime Minister said, ‘We have formulated a vision plan of what Bangladesh will be like in 2021 to 2041 and based on that, we are implementing the work of our eighth five-year plan. He mentioned the formulation and implementation of Centenary Delta Plan-2100 made by the government so that generation after generation can live beautifully in this delta region.
The prime minister reiterated the call to increase food production by utilizing all the waste lands of the country to deal with the ongoing global recession, noting that the world people are not neglecting Bangladesh as in the past as a result of the government’s development activities.
He said, the government was taking the country forward a lot. Among these, the post-Covid-19 Russia-Ukraine war and the development of sanctions centered on it has slowed down a bit. Because many developed countries of the world are also struggling due to its shock. As the prices of imported goods such as edible oil, fuel oil, wheat, maize have increased, so has the cost of transportation. Despite that, the government did not stop. He also said that the government is trying to buy them at an additional price and give them to the people of the country and is continuing its efforts to continue development.
