POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 14, 2023 : Hussain Saeedee, former Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of crimes against humanity, died in 1971.
He died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday (August 14) night.
He was taken to the hospital on Sunday (August 13) afternoon when he felt chest pain earlier.
Delawar Hossain Sayedi is in Kashimpur Jail since 2019. Before this, he was arrested on June 29, 2010 from his house in Shaheen Bagh of the capital.
During the liberation war, eight charges of crimes against humanity, including murder, kidnapping, torture, rape, arson, looting, conversion, were proved, and the International Criminal Tribunal sentenced him to death on two charges. Following a later review petition, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment on 17 September 2014.
