POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Sept 17, 2024 : India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said that recent political events in Bangladesh are internal affairs of the country, and it is not appropriate to comment on them. However, India is sincerely interested in strengthening and stabilizing relations with Bangladesh as a neighbour. He said that India is committed to furthering trade and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
Jaishankar made these comments in an interview with NDTV on the completion of 100 days of the Narendra Modi government’s third term. He said, ‘Neighboring countries are closely related to each other. We have strategic and economic relations with Bangladesh, which we want to strengthen.
Regarding the recent political changes in Bangladesh, Jaishankar said, “The affairs of Bangladesh are purely their internal affairs, and India does not think it appropriate to comment on it.” We have always maintained relations with the existing government of Bangladesh and will continue to do so. We believe that Bangladesh understands its own situation and understands the importance of relations. Interdependence between neighboring countries is very natural, which will take our relations to greater heights.
Jaishankar also said that there have been political changes in other neighboring countries like Bangladesh, but that has been resolved. India always aims to maintain stable relations. The two countries currently have excellent commercial and mutual cooperation, and it is India’s priority to continue this cooperation.
He said, “Our relationship is very good—we depend on each other in terms of trade, human resource development and communication.” We are interested in taking this relationship further.
