POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Apr 4, 2022 : Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) India and Nepal have signed an agreement to supply hydropower to Bangladesh and Bhutan. The joint document on power generation and supply between the two countries was unveiled in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in New Delhi on Saturday.
According to the document, hydropower generated in Nepal will be supplied to neighboring countries. Among the SAARC countries, India-Bhutan-Nepal and Bangladesh have formed sub-regional BBIN structures.
Under this framework, power, infrastructure and communication system will be developed between the four countries. According to the joint document, the two countries have agreed to build a comprehensive project and supply system in the power sector. The two countries will jointly build hydropower projects in Nepal and other countries across the border.
According to the document, India and Nepal will be given equal benefits for the sale of electricity and the sale of electricity will be arranged in accordance with the local laws of the country to which the electricity will be supplied. This system will be developed in accordance with the BBIN Institutional Framework Charter.
During the meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the power surplus in Nepal. According to the announced joint document, Nepal’s water will also be used jointly.
