POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 30, 2022 : Power generating stations have been instructed not to carry out load shedding during Sahari, Iftar and Tarabi during the upcoming Ramadan. Such instructions were given from the inter-ministerial meeting at Bidyut Bhaban on Tuesday regarding the overall situation of power supply.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources was present as the chief guest at the meeting. Tawfiq-i-Ilahi Chowdhury, Birbikram. He called for cost-effective use of electricity and fuel to keep power supply normal during the upcoming Ramadan and summer.

The meeting was chaired by Power Secretary Habibur Rahman and was attended by Mahbub Hossain, Senior Secretary, Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman, Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), Selim Uddin, Chairman, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB), Nazmul Ahsan, Chairman, Petrobangla. Director General Mohammad Hossain and others.

The meeting was informed that the demand for electricity could be 15,500 MW during peak hours this summer. The potential demand for gas could be as high as 1,500 million cubic feet.

The meeting directed to continue and increase gas supply to the power plants to maintain normal power supply situation during the coming month of Ramadan and summer season, take necessary measures to generate power as per peak hour (evening) demand and no load shedding during Iftar, Tarabi and Sehri.

In addition, be careful not to cause load shedding due to technical or any other reason; Checking and replacing overloaded transformers at all distribution companies and keeping adequate transformer stocks in the store; Intensify illegal disconnection activities; To take measures for wide publicity in electronic and print media to make the people aware about energy saving; Replacing CFL bulbs with LED bulbs to prevent wastage of electricity; Supermarkets, petrol pumps and CNG gas stations were also instructed not to use extra lights as required.

At the same time, following the existing rules and regulations regarding opening of shops, markets and malls in the coming month of Ramadan; Restrict the use of AC in shopping malls, department stores and other commercial establishments during Iftar and Tarabi; All shop owners to inspect the internal electrical equipment of the market; The meeting decided to conduct mobile court and take legal action if necessary to ensure marketing of his / her equipment as per BSTI standards.
