POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jun 1, 2022 : The BCL has cordoned off the entire university in protest of the beating of two leaders of the Varsity Express (VX), a bogie-based sub-group of the BCL branch of the Chittagong University, Pradeep Chakraborty Durjoy and Mohammad Rashed. The entire campus of the university has become unusable due to this.

The incident took place at around 3:30 pm on Tuesday (May 31) in the gate area of the university. From then on, the leaders and activists of Chhaelig came under siege.

It is learned that Pradeep Chakraborty Durjoy and Mohammad Rashed, leaders of VX group of Chhatra League were going towards the campus from gate number one on a motorcycle at around 1 am on Monday. On the way, 7/8 members of the group following the local Juba League leader Hanif stopped the motorcycle with local weapons in Mazar Gate area. Then they suddenly started beating Pradeep and Rashed. Motorcycles were also vandalized. Later, in protest of the incident, the followers of VX group locked the main entrance of the university in Zero Point area and blocked the campus from early morning.

Due to the blockade, no train has been able to enter the campus so far. Also no bus of university teachers or students could enter the campus. All buses, CNG, rickshaws, motorcycles coming from Gate No. 1 are being stopped 400 meters before Zero Point area. Traffic has also been stopped at various points on the campus and in the streets. Ordinary students of the university have suffered in this. In this situation, the students are worried about whether the class will be held today or not.

During the agitation, a member of the VX group said that there was no need for a university which could not ensure the safety of its students. Two of our student leaders have been attacked. Until action is taken, we will continue the movement.

In this regard, Assistant Proctor of the University Dr. Shahidul Islam said, all the important places of the campus have been cordoned off since morning. We are trying, not yet resolved. I can’t even say anything about having a class today.
