POBNEWS24,Dhaka Aug 26, 2022 : In February of this year, immediately after the announcement of the hall committee, the president Kamal Uddin Rana and the general secretary Rubel Hossain promised to perform the duties together in the Martyr Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall.

They have made the relationship public on several occasions. But in practice, clashes often occur between the two groups of workers. They clashed three times in the month of August.

They got involved in the rhetoric of occupying the room, dominating the hall, political programs. Last Thursday at around 1.30 am, there was a clash between two groups of workers, the president and the general secretary, over drug consumption. Farid Zaman, a follower of President Kamal Uddin Rana, Zahid and several others were injured.

Eyewitnesses said, ‘Chatra League workers regularly consume drugs on the roof of the hall. Last night at approximately 1:30 am, some of the workers of the president group, Master’s student of Theater and Performance Studies Department, Farid Zaman, Sakibur Rahman Sayem of International Relations Department, Shakil Hossain Sagar, a fourth year student of Public Administration Department, were consuming drugs on the roof of the main building of the hall. At the same time, on the other side of the roof, Rakibul Hasan Rahi, a third year student of Pali and Buddhist Studies Department, Abdur Rahim Shanto of Persian Language and Literature Department, Rajib Robin of Accounting Department were consuming drugs on the other side of the roof. At that time they were singing loudly and when Farid Zaman came and asked them to leave, the quarrel broke out. At one stage, when Farid slapped Rahi, the leaders and activists of the two groups clashed. Three other Chhatra League workers including Farid were injured. ‘

Eyewitnesses also said, ‘When this news spread, two groups of workers took a stand with indigenous weapons. Later, Chhatra League president and secretary came and tried to control the situation. Later sat in the guest room of the hall and tried to settle. ‘

Earlier, Zahurul Haque Hall Chhatra League organized a discussion meeting in memory of those who died in the grenade attack on August 21 in the auditorium of the student-teacher center on August 22 in the afternoon. In that meeting, two groups of workers clashed.

Apart from this, there was tension between the leaders and activists of the two groups over occupying room number 274 of the hall on August 2 midnight. At that time, they started showdown with indigenous weapons. Later two top leaders of the hall came and controlled the situation.

According to Chhatra League sources, Farid Zaman, a follower of President Kamal Uddin Rana, often prevents clashes. Hall President Kamal Uddin has a good relationship with Rana and misbehaves with the junior staff. This has created anger among other leaders and activists about Farid. Last Friday night too, when Farid first beat the juniors, a conflict arose. ‘

Kamal Uddin Rana, President of Zahurul Haque Hall Branch Chhatra League told Kal Kantha, “Hall Branch Chhatra League is like a family. There is a little trouble between brothers and sisters in the family. Same here. We all sat down and resolved these issues. I have given instructions that this should never happen again in the future. ‘

Hall Principal Professor Abdur Rahim said, ‘I spoke to all concerned on Friday morning after the night’s incident. The president and general secretary of the hall branch of the Chhatra League assured that such incidents will not happen again. The administration will take measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. ‘
