POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 21, 2024 : The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal turned into a depression on Friday night. As a result, rain has already started in the southern parts of the country. In addition, the Meteorological Office has asked seaports to display warning signal number one.
This information was announced in a special weather bulletin on Saturday (December 21).
It said that the low pressure area located in the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas is moving northeastwards and is located in the same area (13.8° North latitude and 84.1° East longitude).
It was located 1,265 km southwest of Chittagong Seaport, 1,220 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar Seaport, 1,140 km southwest of Mongla Seaport and 1,140 km southwest of Payra Seaport at 6 am today. It may move further north-northeastwards.
Maximum sustained winds are 40 km/h within 44 km of the depression, increasing to 50 km/h in gusts or squalls. Seas are rough in the area near the depression.
The seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to display distant warning signal number one.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to remain close to the coast and to exercise caution until further notice. They have also been asked not to venture into the deep sea.
Meteorologist Shahinul Islam told Jago News that there is no danger of the depression developing into a deep depression. Under its influence, the signal may increase to number three.
