POBNEWS24, Kolkata Nov 30, 2024 : Amid tense diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and India, Kolkata Police has arrested a BNP leader from Madaripur district named Salim Matabbar from a hotel on Park Street with a fake Indian passport.
Acting on a tip-off, Kolkata Police conducted a raid on the hotel on Park Street on Friday (November 29) night.After that, the accused was arrested with the fake passport and other documents.He will be produced before the Banksal court today.
Although the arrested Salim Matabbar is a resident of Madaripur, Bangladesh, he is accused of making a fake Indian passport and fake Indian ID card, voter card and even a PAN card in the name of Ravi Sharma.
Police said that during initial interrogation, the man confessed that he is a BNP leader from Madaripur district of Bangladesh, and that there was unrest in Bangladesh a couple of years ago.At that time, he moved to West Bengal to escape the hands of the former ruling Awami League.
His name is written as Ravi Sharma on the passport and Aadhaar card confiscated from him. It is known that he illegally crossed the border through a broker and took refuge in India. However, the investigating officers of the Police STF are investigating where he made this fake passport and Aadhaar card, where he has been staying for the past 2 years, and who or what helped him in making the fake identity.
