POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 9, 2022: Mohammad Golam Sarwar, the director of the notorious ‘Amar Bangladesh’ hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli, was once a ‘broker’ himself. He used to take the patients who came to the government hospital for treatment to various private hospitals. He worked as a broker for about eight years. He then started a joint venture with a well-known diagnostic center.
A court on Saturday granted a two-day remand to Golam Sarwar in a case filed with the Mohammadpur Police Station in connection with the death of a twin child after he stopped treatment by opening an oxygen tube. He is now in the custody of Mohammadpur police. The broker who took the mother of the twins Ayesha Akhter from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital to the nominal hospital could not be arrested. The law enforcers could not arrest the accused in the case and another director of the hospital, Sohaib Khan. No one was found in the hospital yesterday.
Mohammadpur Police Station OC Abdul Latif told Prothom Alo that after questioning the accused Golam Sarwar on remand, information would be gathered about who else was involved in the incident. The broker mentioned in the case has not been identified yet. Golam Sarwar will also be questioned in this regard. Along with the accused in the case, all those whose names will come up in the investigation will be brought under the law.
Meanwhile, the autopsy of Shishu Ahmed, who died in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College yesterday afternoon, has been completed. In the evening, the body of the child was handed over to Mama Mehedi Hasan. Mehdi took Ahmed’s body to his home in Bhatpara, Savar.
Shishu Abdullah is undergoing treatment at the Pediatric High Dependency (HDU) Department of Pediatrics at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Aminul Islam, the doctor in charge of the children’s department, told Prothom Alo that his condition was better than before .
Mehedi Hasan, uncle of the twins , told Prothom Alo that Ahmed’s body was buried at Bhatpara after Janaza at night as per the decision of the family members. His sister Ayesha Akter is with baby Abdullah.
Mother Ayesha Akhter admitted the twins on December 31 at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. After falling into the clutches of a middleman, on January 2, the two children were admitted to a well-known hospital named Amar Bangladesh in Shyamoli. Three days later (January 5), the hospital authorities handed over a bill of 1 lakh 26 thousand rupees to Ayesha. Saudi expatriate husband said. The twins were discharged from the hospital on January 8 after paying Rs 40,000 from Jamal. Ahmed died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
