POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 12, 2021: Marina Jahan, who was elected in the by-election of Sirajganj-6 constituency of the Jatiya Sangsad, has been sworn in as an MP. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury administered the oath of office to him in the oath room of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday.
After taking the oath, Marina Jahan signed the oath book according to the custom. Chief Whip of the National Assembly Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury and Whip Abu Saeed Al Mahmood were present on the occasion. Secretary of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat KM Abdus Salam administered the oath of office.
Although BNP did not participate in this by-election, there were two more candidates against Awami League nominated candidate Marina Jahan. They are Moktar Hossain of Jatiya Party and Humayun Kabir of Independent candidate.
Marina Jahan got 1 lakh 10 thousand 560 votes in the by-election. His closest rival, the National Party (JAP) said. Moktar Hossain got 535 votes with plow symbol.
After the death of MP Hasibur Rahman on September 2, the Election Commission declared the seat vacant.
