POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 18,2025 : Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam today said the martyrs of the mass uprising will be recognized as ‘July Martyrs’ and the injured as ‘July Fighters’.
“Those who were martyred in the July uprising will be known as ‘July Martyrs’ while the injured will be known as ‘July Fighters,” he said while talking to journalists after attending the third session of the second day of the DC conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium here.
Certificates and identity cards, various government benefits including lifelong free medical treatment and allowances will be given to them in recognition to their sacrifices, he said.
He said that the members of the martyred families in the July uprising will receive a one-time TK 30 lakh in the form of savings certificates.
In the current fiscal year, they will be given TK 1O lakh through savings certificates. The remaining TK 20 lakh will be given from July of the next fiscal year in the forms savings certificates.
The adviser said that discussions were held on facilitating the verification of the list of injured in the July-August uprising alongside verifying the accuracy of the list of the injured in the uprising.
Providing financial assistance to the families of the martyrs by the foundation and providing cooperation from the district administration in sending the injured to PG hospitals and other specialized hospitals for better treatment have also been discussed, he said.
Stating that the process of formation of the July Directorate is in its final stage, he said, “I hope the directorate will be formed this week. A policy has also been formulated regarding the formation of the directorate.”
Stating that those who were injured in the movement will receive assistance in three categories, the adviser said that the injured will receive lifelong medical benefits.
They will also receive allowances. Those who are seriously injured will receive a one-time allowance of TK five lakh and an allowance of TK 20,000 per month.
Those who were maimed will receive an allowance of TK 15,000 per month and a one-time allowance of TK three lakh.
Those who were slightly injured received treatment and after recovery will be rehabilitated with jobs on the priority basis.
The injured will receive training at various levels. They will be given priority employment in government, semi-government and other jobs. They will also be appointed on the basis of the merit, he said.
Stating that fake freedom fighters will be identified and brought under the law, Faruk E Azam said, many DCs have complained in today’s meeting that many people have become fake freedom fighters without joining the Liberation War.
The district administrations have sought specific government instructions to take action against them after tracing them out, he said.
Asked about measures against them, he said they have asked the National Freedom Fighters Council to be reconstituted. They are bringing amendments to the law that existed in Jatiyo Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka).
This amendment is coming in terms of the definition of freedom fighter.
“After this amendment comes, the Muktijoddha Sangsad will also be reconstituted. When the Sangsad is reconstituted, we will try to identify fake freedom fighters in every district. Those whom we can identify will be brought to justice,” he said.
The Adviser said they have asked DCs to closely monitor various allocations including rehabilitation activities ‘kabikha’ at the local level.
“So, the projects to be undertaken for rural infrastructure would properly be utilized,” he said.
