POBNEWS24,Dhaka July 24, 2022 : Addressing the opposition, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Those who have no, no, gone, go around, let the party continue to do so. Sometimes you have to let them have a say. And we do our work. Let the country move forward and Bangladesh will move forward.’ He said, ‘We trust the people, the people are with us. And the father of the nation has said ‘No one can keep Bangladesh under control’, no one can keep it under control.’
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing the chief guest at the ‘National Fisheries Week-2022’ celebration and ‘National Fisheries Medal-2022’ ceremony on Sunday. He joined the main program at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital through video conference from Gana Bhavan.
The head of government said, ‘Padma bridge was obstructed, by overcoming that barrier and building Padma bridge with our own funding, we have conveyed the message to the world that Bangladesh can, we can.’ The Prime Minister expressed his anger against those who criticized the situation and wanted to bring Bangladesh to the ranks of Sri Lanka without considering the global recession due to the war in Russia, Ukraine and the US sanctions against Russia after the corona epidemic.
The Prime Minister said, ‘I believe, we will not have any shortage of fish and will be able to add new export items. Those who have reservoirs should pay special attention to bring that reservoir under fish farming.’
The National Fisheries Week is being celebrated across the country from July 23 to 29 under the initiative of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock under the theme ‘Safe fish-dependent country, Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh’.
Pointing out the huge potential of fish production in the Haor region, the Prime Minister said, ‘Not only Haor, Bawar, canal, Beel, various reservoirs are ours. I think that those who have such reservoirs, if they pay a little attention to the production of this fish, not only fish but also crabs, snails, oysters can be cultivated with fish.’ He said, ‘If we can do these things, we will not have any shortage of ourselves. In terms of export, we can offer new products.’
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to set up food and fish processing industries in 100 Special Economic Zones across the country and urged the young generation to come forward for this purpose. As a result, by increasing the number of export products to meet the local demand, employment will also be created along with foreign exchange earnings.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak awarded the National Fisheries Medal-2022 to 21 individuals and institutions in recognition of their special contribution to the fisheries sector. Directorate General of Fisheries Khandkar Mahbubul Haque presided over the award ceremony. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sh M Rezaul Karim presided over the event. Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak was the special guest. Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. Md. Yamin Chowdhury gave the welcome speech.
On the occasion of ‘National Fisheries Week-2022’, the Prime Minister released fish fry in Ganabhavan Lake.
A documentary on the country’s development in the fisheries sector was also screened at the event. Apart from this, as part of the central programme, a three-day Central Fish Fair is being held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center-adjacent ground in the capital.

Prime Minister said, “We are “fish and rice Bengalis” and may we remain as Bengalis in this fish and rice.” He said that the fish can be processed by keeping it intact and softening its bones to make it edible and it is not too difficult. This step can be taken at home. In this context, he also mentioned that even if the fish is boiled for a little longer in a pressure cooker, its bones become soft and can be fed to children as well. As the Prime Minister does this in his own family, he also gave some cooking recipes.
The head of government said, “If we create this kind of industry and keep the fish intact with pressure and soften its thorns, if we can canned it, process it and export it to the country and abroad, many countries of the world will import this fish from our country.” Or we can export various fish products.’ He said, ‘I think our young generation will come forward in this field. This will increase their employment and eliminate unemployment in the country. And with that, the country will also get exportable products and meet the domestic needs of the country. We believe that we can take the country further that way.’
Urging everyone to come forward in this fish processing, the Prime Minister said, “Sea wood” (aquatic plants on the bottom of the sea) that can be extracted from our sea limits is a valuable resource. The more we can produce it, the more we can export abroad and the demand for it is increasing in the country as well.’ Also emphasizing on snail and oyster farming, he said that it can also provide employment besides being a major export product. So give some importance to this.
