By Mir Afroz Zaman, POBNEWS24.Net Dhaka, Mar 5,2021 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the Bangladesh Festival on March 26 to mark the golden jubilee of independence and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations. The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will then jointly inaugurate the Bangladesh-India Friendship-1 Bridge over the Feni River in Bangladesh.
Masud bin Momen, senior secretary at the foreign ministry, made the remarks in response to a question from reporters after visiting Mahamuni Maitri Bridge 1 in Ramgarh on Friday (March 5th).
He added that although the bridge has been inaugurated, more formalities remain in the bridge’s activities. The bridge will bring a lot of economic progress between the two countries. The foreign secretary said the Teesta treaty had been discussed with the Indian foreign secretary. He is scheduled to meet India’s Water Resources Secretary on March 16, followed by a meeting of the two countries’ water resources ministers. If we have optimistic meetings, there will be progress on 6 rivers including Tinta.
Also present on the occasion were Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Atiqur Rahman, Director General of the Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces, Major General Saiful Abedin, GOC of Chittagong, Guimara Region. Colonel Anwarul Mazhar and other senior officials.
Under the supervision of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation of India Limited (NHIDCL) and the contractor Tanish Chandra Agarbhag Private Limited at a cost of Tk. 62.56 crore. Construction started in October and ended in January after 3 long years.
On June 8, 2015, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge-1 over the Feni River. The construction work of Maitri Bridge started from 26 October 2016. Work on the bridge is over, now it’s time for the inauguration. The people of Ramgarh and Sabrum are counting the days waiting for that.
