POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 27, 2022 : Shooter Sumon Sikder alias Musa has pleaded guilty in court to the shooting deaths of Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afran Preeti in the capital’s Shahjahanpur. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Saadi recorded his statement.

The general registration branch of the court on Sunday, said the sub-inspector of police. Shawkat Akbar said police produced Musa in court last Friday during his third remand. Musa then agreed to make a confessional statement and was asked to record it.

Following the application, the court recorded his statement and sent him to jail.

 

Earlier, accused Musa was produced in court on June 22 after the second remand. The investigating officer of the case, Inspector of Police Yasin Sikder, applied for a seven-day remand for questioning and conducting the operation. Following the hearing, the court granted him a three-day remand.

On May 18, the Oman police arrested Musa. On June 9, the intelligence police brought him back to the country from Oman. The next day, on June 10, the court denied bail and granted him a six-day remand. Then on June 17, the court granted him a four-day remand in the second phase.

After his arrest in the case, shooter Masum Mohammad Akash gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in court on March 26. In his statement, the police found the involvement of top terrorist Sumon Sikder alias Musa as the mastermind and coordinator of the murder.

On the night of March 24, former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Awami League Md. Jahidul Islam Tipu. College student Samia Afran Jamal Preeti, who was sitting in a rickshaw at the time, was shot dead. Tipu’s wife Farhana Islam Dolly, a reserved councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), filed a murder case with Shahjahanpur Police Station on the same night after the shocking murder.

In the case statement, Tipu’s wife alleged that on March 24, 2022, at around 10:15 pm, unidentified miscreants attacked her as soon as she reached in front of the butter shop at 202 North Shahjahanpur Manama Bhaban of Shahjahanpur Police Station. They randomly shot my husband Jahidul Islam Tipu with a firearm with the intention of killing him.
