POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 3, 2025 : A regional government in northwest China has recently announced the establishment of two new ‘counties’ bordering India. New Delhi has protested the announcement of the establishment of two new administrative regions on its neck. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has expressed concern and said that some parts of the counties declared by China fall within the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh.
New Delhi said that India has lodged objections and protests through diplomatic channels after the neighboring country announced the establishment of the two counties.
Chinese state media Xinhua reported on December 27 that the government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China has announced the establishment of two new counties. The names are He’an and Hekang. The Central Committee of the Communist Party and the State Council have approved it.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that some parts of the so-called counties fall under Ladakh. India will never accept China’s illegal occupation of Indian territory in this region.
He said, we have seen the announcement of the establishment of two new counties. Part of the jurisdiction of these so-called counties falls in the Union Territory of Ladakh. We have never accepted China’s illegal occupation of Indian territory in this area.
Randhir Jaiswal also said, the formation of the new county will not affect India’s long-standing and consistent position on our sovereignty over the area and will not legitimize China’s illegal and forcible occupation. We have lodged a protest with China through diplomatic channels.
Meanwhile, on December 25, Xinhua reported in another report that China is building a hydroelectric project on the Yarlung Tsangpo River in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
In response, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said that India has also expressed its views and concerns about the construction of a Chinese hydroelectric project on the Brahmaputra River.
