Expressing dissatisfaction with the election results, General Secretary candidate Chitranaika Nipun has appealed against the election of the Film Artists Association. He made the request to the Electoral Appeal Board of the Film Artists Association on Saturday. Sohanur Rahman Sohan, a member of the Board of Appeals and president of the Film Directors Association, confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo.
Mohammad Hossain, Sohanur Rahman Sohan and Mohammad Hossain Jamie are the members of the Appellate Board for the election of this year’s Shilpi Samiti. Sohan said, “Ilias Kanchan and the general secretary candidate of Nipun Panel have appealed to us. We are verifying. Then we will try to inform our decision today.
Confirming the appeal, Nipun said he feared fraud in the results. He also said that there was an average of votes. Meanwhile, the matter was discussed with the Chief Election Commissioner Peerzada Harun. He said, “10 ballots have been canceled in the executive council and 28 in the editorial council.” But representatives of both the parties were present during the counting of votes. Even then, if anyone expresses dissatisfaction and doubt about the result of the vote, they can certainly appeal. The members of the Appellate Committee will select them and give their views.
Asked what is the rule of cancellation of votes, Peerzada Harun said, “Where 10 people are supposed to vote, if 9 people are allowed to vote, then it is considered void.” Asked if this was the rule of the Election Commission, he said, “It is happening. Cancel even if less, cancel even if more. ‘
Some of the candidates again said, “Voters can vote for 10 people, so why should 9 people be canceled?” They also say to deprive those who have been given it. Someone is saying again, 28 votes are needed again, then let the one who wins be elected. To remind such a context, Peerzada Harun said, “If it is said that 28 votes have to be taken again, but the Election Commission cannot do anything. However, if someone says that the election has been invalidated, they can re-elect with the decision of the court. In that case, re-election can be held by re-announcing the schedule and appointing an election commissioner. There is no chance of taking 26 votes separately.
The election for the term of 2022-2024 of Bangladesh Film Artists Association was held on January 26 yesterday. The election results were announced the next day at 5:45 am on Saturday. In this election, the name of Ilyas Kanchan was announced as the president, he got 191 votes. His nearest rival Misha Saudagar got 146 votes. On the other hand, Zayed Khan has been announced as the general secretary, he got 16 votes, and Nipun got 173 votes.
