POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 22, 2025 : Bengalis have found an opportunity to transform the glorious tradition of mourning for their mother tongue into universal joy. Ekushey, which was a firm conviction not to bow down, is now the inspiration for the endless pride of the Bengali nation. On February 21, 1952, the brave sons of Bengal defended the right to speak their mother tongue by shedding their fresh blood. The first protest of Bengalis against tyranny and all the injustices of the ruling class, ‘Ekushey February 21′, is a milestone in the long struggle for national identity and is a shining example of its own. The Bengali nation achieved the honor of being the first martyr in the world to establish the dignity of their mother tongue. The killing of students participating in the language movement created a spirit of protest, which has inspired our independence. The Bengali society has always been united and agitating for the partition of the country, language movement, military rule, mass uprising, independence and democratic rights. This nation has always heroically resisted the cruelty of the ruling class. The great Ekushey taught us not to bow our heads to injustice. But this time in the month of language in 2025, we got a game of blood Holi. Only blood and blood is flowing everywhere every day. Is BNP killing the Awami League, are the fundamentalists killing every party? Similarly, a local BNP worker in Bogra was killed in broad daylight. The incident took place in the Chandihara Kholagachi area of Bogra Sadar on Friday morning. A BNP worker named Apel Mahmud (35) was stabbed to death. His brother Al Mamun (38) was seriously injured in the incident. Mamun was admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMEC) Hospital in his injured condition. The incident was committed after the two brothers were called to the spot due to a political dispute, said Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rezaul Karim Reza.
Sources said the incident was committed in the wake of the murder of Swechchhasebak Dal activist Soni.
The deceased Apel was an active worker of Ward No. 3 BNP of Gokul Union. His brother Mamun is also a member of the ward BNP committee. They went to Mahasthan Hat around 8 am that morning. Upon learning about the matter, those involved in the murder called Chandihara, saying they were selling goats, and asked them to go to the Kholagachir intersection.
When they went there by bus around 9 am, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, former president of Gokul Union Volunteers’ Party and member of the District Volunteers’ Party Convening Committee, and his associates took the two brothers off the bus and took them to a nearby litchi garden. After taking them to the scene, they stabbed Apel in the chest and back and beat Mamun in the hand, almost severing his fingers, and fled. Apel died on the spot.
So, this time, that respect for that language month is completely faded. Awami League-Chhatra League was not allowed to participate in the commemoration of language martyrs. There have been various kinds of unrest in various areas including Chittagong Nasirnagar, and programs have been stopped in some places. Shaheed Minar was demolished in Comilla.
Bangladesh became independent with the spirit of 52. But the people of Bengal could not have imagined that that spirit would change overnight.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have arrested 769 more people in the special operation ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ ongoing across the country. The total number of arrests in the past 14 days has reached 8,079.
This information was given in a press release sent from the police headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
Police said that as part of the operation, a large amount of weapons were also recovered from various places. The recovered weapons include a country-made single-barrel gun, two cartridges, four ramdas, two chapatis, a knife, an LG and a pair of scissors.
It is worth noting that on February 7, students and the public were injured in an attack by Awami terrorists in Gazipur. A person named Kashem Khan, who was seriously injured in the incident, died while undergoing treatment.
After this incident, top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, law enforcement agencies and other security agencies held a meeting to strengthen the country’s security system. In continuation of this, a special operation called ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ was launched nationwide from February 8.
Law enforcement agencies said that this operation will continue and the criminals will be brought to justice quickly.
However, the Awami League has said that their leaders and workers have been arrested in the name of devil hunt.
On the other hand, the police have removed the demands of the employees of the Outsourcing Employees Welfare Council in front of the National Press Club by throwing water cannons and sound grenades. The police went into action after 5:15 pm on Saturday. Earlier, they had blocked the road for about two hours demanding permanent employment.
The police repeatedly requested the protesters to move away from the road, but they did not listen. Later, the police were seen throwing water from water cannons to remove the protesters from the road. In addition, five rounds of sound grenades were also thrown.
Earlier, the employees of the Bangladesh Outsourcing Employees Welfare Council blocked the road after 3 pm demanding permanent employment. This stopped traffic on both sides of Topkhana Road. Outsourcing workers have made a point of demand to make the jobs of those working in outsourcing projects permanent in all government, autonomous departments and directorates.
The conflict between the student organizations of the one-time political allies of BNP and Jamaat, Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir, is becoming evident over the expansion of influence in educational institutions. In some places, the leaders and activists of these two organizations have been seen in a face-to-face position. There have also been incidents of clashes. Blame politics is going on.
