POBNEWS24 Dhaka Dec 5, 2023 : Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that after 6 pm on December 31, no kind of event will be allowed in open spaces across the country, including Dhaka city, based on Thirty First Night.
He said this after the law and order meeting on the occasion of Christmas and Thirty First Night celebrations at the Secretariat on Tuesday (December 5) afternoon.
The minister said that the security and law and order of the churches will be maintained throughout the country including Dhaka. I have requested the Christian community to provide a large number of volunteers to work with our security forces.
Intelligence agencies and security forces will be in the church areas from December 24 to 26, the minister said, adding that archway, city cameras have been requested. Security will be strengthened in Christian dominated areas across the country including Dhaka. If anyone comes across any untoward situation, they are asked to call 999 immediately.
“I will not allow any kind of event in open spaces across the country including Dhaka city after 6 pm on December 31, based on Thirty First Night. Elections are going to be held on January 7. For this reason this restriction will be given. There will also be restrictions on public gatherings. Those who will perform the event will do it in indoor hotels or indoors.’
Asaduzzaman Khan said, on the occasion of the thirty first night, I have requested to refrain from playing flutes, bursting crackers, fireworks or flying lanterns.
Stating that police checkposts will be set up at important places from the evening of December 31, the Home Minister said, “We have been noticing for a few days that people have started racing in cars or motorcycles at high speed at night. According to the intelligence agency, it can be widespread on December 31. That is why checkposts will be provided on the road.
Special security surveillance will be increased in the diplomatic area on Eid and Thirty-First Night. We request that there is no drug abuse on the Thirty First Night. Security forces will be active to prevent it. I have taken measures to close the bar.’
Regarding the transfer of OCs, the Home Minister said that the Election Commission has specifically asked to transfer those OCs who have been in one place for more than six months. They set the time. According to that time, the Public Security Secretary and the IGP will sit and send the proposal within a day or two. Election Commission controls everything now. The work is being done according to the kind of instructions they are giving. Almost OC needs to be transferred.
