POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jul 23, 2021 : Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswamy said, the situation in India is slowly improving. Hopefully, with the increase of vaccine production, we will be able to move forward.
If the supply of corona vaccine in India is adequate, we will be able to move forward. But we do not have a specific date relating to Indian vaccine for Bangladesh. However, production is increasing. It’s positive, he said.
The Indian envoy said this while talking to journalists at the Zero Line of Akhaura International Check-post in Brahmanbaria district today (Friday).
On July 18, Vikram Doraiswamy went to India along with his wife through the Akhaura Check-post.
He returned to Bangladesh this (Friday) morning.
Mentioning that he visited his country to learn about the vaccine production there, the Indian High Commissioner said that India was working with many other friendly countries to ensure the supply of vaccines to an important country like Bangladesh. But he does not know the future. We must inform the matter as soon as possible.
Asked about the amount of vaccines to be given to Bangladesh, he said, “We will inform the matter soon”.
The Indian envoy said, “Amid corona in the last one year, trade activities between the two countries have increased significantly. Bangladesh’s exports to India have increased. Similarly, India’s exports with Bangladesh also increased. If the communication system is good, we will be able to continue trade and commerce between the two countries during the Corona pandemic”.
In reply to a query, he said, the corona situation has improved in big cities in India. About 50 people are affected on an average daily in Delhi. Corona situation is also improving in other big cities. In many places, normalcy has been restored with everything re-opened.
Terming Bangladesh as a close friend, Vikram Doraiswamy said, “Bangladesh is also fighting against Covid-19. We will be happy to cooperate with Bangladesh in this regard. I am happy that Bangladesh is working hard to deal with the Corona situation”.
Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rumana Akhter, Akhaura Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman, Immigration Police in-charge Mohammad Abdul Hamid and others were present on the occasion.
