POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 30, 2022 : Law Minister Anisul Haque has said that not a single thread will be spared outside the verdict of the Supreme Court on the question of caretaker. All necessary steps have been taken for fair elections.
He said this while participating in the process of passing the budget in the National Assembly session on Thursday.
Speaker Dr. Opposition Jatiya Party, Gono Forum and BNP MPs discussed the cut in the allocation for the Election Commission in the Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury session.
They also questioned the Election Commission (EC) and the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), claiming that the next election would not be acceptable. At the same time the caretaker demanded the government.
Responding to the opposition members’ statement, Law Minister Anisul Haque, who is in charge of the Election Commission, said whether the BNP is in Pakistan, they should be called for elections. The Election Commission has enacted the law as per their demand. Now the caretaker government is demanding. But not a single thread will be spared on this question outside the judgment of the Supreme Court. The country’s highest court has declared the caretaker government illegal. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all necessary steps for free and fair elections. The CEC and four commissioners have been appointed through the enactment of the Election Commission Act to create a level playing field.
The minister said two BNP MPs had questioned the acceptability of the last election. But they were elected in that election and came to this parliament. They have spoken regularly in this Parliament.
He said there is no chance of saying anywhere in the world, including the Americas, that elections will be 100% fair. But the elections of 1996, 2008, 2014 and 2016 in Bangladesh have been fair and acceptable.
Highlighting the details of the elections held after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family, Anisul Haque said, “I saw the yes-no vote during the tenure of Ziaur Rahman.” 99 percent of the votes for the presidency. But no one had to go to the polls. Everyone knows about the election of 15 February 1996 during the BNP rule. Everyone knows what happened in the Magura by-election. In their time we have seen the Justice Aziz Marca Election Commission. He claimed that the next elections would be fair under this government.
