POBNEWS24, Dhaka May 19, 2025 : Nusrat Faria played the role of Sheikh Hasina in the India-Bangladesh joint production of the biopic of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This is her crime. Although Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said otherwise. He said that actress Nusrat Faria was arrested because there was a case against her.
He told the media at the Secretariat on Monday that an investigation is being conducted against Nusrat Faria. If she is proven innocent, she will be released. He said that the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to arrest only those who are the real culprits in the July massacre and that no one should suffer.
The court sent actress Nusrat Faria to jail on Monday morning in a murder attempt case filed by Bhatara Police Station in the capital during the anti-discrimination movement.
Earlier on Sunday, Nusrat Faria was detained by immigration police from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. She was detained at the airport’s immigration check post while going to Thailand. Later, she was shown arrested. Police said that there was an arrest warrant against Nusrat Faria in a case filed at Bhatara Police Station. She was accused of attempted murder in that case during the July uprising.
A police source at Bhatara Police Station said that after her detention, Nusrat Faria was brought to the police station. However, instead of keeping her in the police station, she was later shown arrested and sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch office.
Nusrat Faria started acting in films in 2015. Since then, she has worked in several films in Bangladesh and India. She is also active in modeling and directing.
Faria played the role of Sheikh Hasina in the biopic of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Many people have also commented that the on-screen Sheikh Hasina was also leaving the country after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country. Nusrat Faria’s destination was Thailand. After the news of Faria’s arrest was released, the matter went viral on social media. Netizens commented that Nusrat Faria, who played the role of Sheikh Hasina in the movie, was fleeing the country after the case.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s biographical film ‘Mujib: The Shaper of a Nation’ was released in cinemas across the country on October 13, 2023. National Film Award-winning actor Arifin Shuvo plays the role of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the film by renowned Indian director Shyam Benegal. Nusrat Faria plays the role of Sheikh Hasina and Nusrat Imroz Tisha plays the role of Fazilatunnesa Mujib. Meanwhile, Cultural Affairs Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui commented that Nusrat Faria’s arrest was an embarrassing incident. The advisor made such comments in a status posted on his verified Facebook account on Monday.
In his status, he wrote, “I usually try not to talk outside the work of my ministry. But I have an identity. I was a person from this industry and I will go back there in two days.” Nusrat Faria’s arrest was an embarrassing incident for us. Our government’s job is to prosecute the real criminals of July. Our clear position in the case of the spillage case is that no one will be arrested unless there is involvement in the initial investigation. And that is the policy that was being followed.” In his status, Farooqui also wrote, “I believe that Faria will get legal redress. And we hope that we will be able to handle such spillage cases more sensitively. We must remember that our main job is to prosecute the real criminals of July.” General Secretary of the People’s Rights Council, Md. Rashed Khan, commented that by arresting Nusrat Faria, the trial of the genocide is essentially being lightened. He said this in a post on the social media Facebook on Sunday night. Rashed Khan wrote in the post, ‘By arresting Nusrat Fariad, the trial of the genocide is being lightened. If Nusrat Faria is arrested, Tisha will also be arrested. Even Farooqui should be arrested to take advantage of the Awami League for the rest of his life because Advisor Farooqui’s wife Tisha Begum Mujib played the role of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. One person will be outside and the other in prison. There cannot be two types of discriminatory behavior in one country.’ Many stars from the showbiz world have already expressed their reactions to the arrest of Nusrat Faria. Actress Ajmeri Haque Badhon shared a picture of Faria on social media and wrote in a post this morning, ‘What a shame! This girl is not guilty. She is not responsible at all. She has no connection with those who have oppressed the common people by carrying out fascist rule.’ Then, Badhon further wrote about the current situation in the country, ‘I am deeply concerned about the current situation and the system. We do not live in a country where justice is common. But this incident is completely unacceptable.
Not only advisors, actors and actresses or politicians are seen talking about the arrest of Nusrat Faria, but also ordinary netizens. Some say that playing the role of Sheikh Hasina is Nusrat Faria’s fate. Many are also opposing her. Many are seen posting even bringing up the issue of Faria’s relationship with Junaid Ahmed Palak, the former ICT State Minister of the fascist government.
