POBNEWS24, Dhaka Oct 12, 2023 : The proposal for visa-free travel between Bangladesh and India has been presented to the Foreign Minister of India, said Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen.
He disclosed this at the weekly media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (October 12).
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Seheli Sabrin was present at the briefing.
Dr. Momen said, he talked with his Indian counterpart on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) conference in Colombo.
‘I discussed it with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. I told him at that time, you give a lot of visas. But getting the visa is getting delayed now. There are also delays in medical visas. Then he said that he will talk to the Dhaka High Commission about this’.
The foreign minister also said that there was a dialogue between Bangladesh and India a few days ago in Sylhet. There are proposals for visa-free travel between the two countries. We want visa-free travel between the two countries.
In response to a question, Momen said, I raised the issue of visa free travel with S Jaishankar. He said, it has to be tested. He didn’t say no.
It may be noted that after attending the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) conference held in Colombo, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen returned to the country on Thursday.
